Meditative Music

Suggestions for Best Listening

The pieces heard on this site are available for purchase are of the highest-mp3 quality and can be played without restriction in the devices you own that play mp3s (DRM-free 320 kbps mp3s).

The music files have little to no compression in contrast with most music found on the radio or streaming on the net which is usually heavily compressed. Compression is a method of increasing the volume of lower levels of the tracks to be closer or at the same volume level as the louder. Doing so, however, tends to “flatten” the sound, in my opinion, and removes a major vehicle for delivering strong a emotional dimension in sound.

Because of the minimal compression, there are trade-offs. For example, hearing the music in a driving car would be difficult because of competing noise.

The pieces are created in a state of meditation. Though they are not of the “typical” meditation in that they are not always soft. I use the term in the more strict meaning - that it is created from a strong focus upon on task or action. Hence, creating conditions similar to the state in which the music was formed, can enhance the listening experience.

Suggestions:

  • Minimize distractions - sonic or otherwise
  • Dim lights
  • Turn off the phone and computer monitors if possible
  • Use a good speaker system with which you are comfortable
  • Consider speaker locations relative to the height of your ears

I think you’ll find that the minimal compression of sound, in these conditions, serve to enhance the experience of listening. Please enjoy.
